FR – Cet ouvrage s’emploie à esquisser une histoire de l’art qui s’appréhende non pas par les sens de l’intellect que sont la vue et l’œil, mais par l’un des oubliés du corps : le nez. Prenant pour point de départ les aventures futuristes du début du xxe siècle et s’étirant jusqu’à nos jours, il est proposé ici de rendre compte de la présence des effluves dans ce que l’occident a établi comme l’histoire de l’art. Ni matière ni médium, ni courant ni mouvement, l’olfaction tout à fait invisibilisée par la critique, est pourtant omniprésente, et elle est bavarde. elle dit tout de notre monde, tout en s’opposant à une hégémonique culture du tout œil, divisant depuis toujours le corps et l’esprit des artistes et des spectateurs·rices. Par l’étude de l’odeur, l’art s’ouvre en une autre voie.
ENG – This essay attempts to sketch a history of art that is apprehended not by the senses of the intellect, such as sight and the eye, but by one of the forgotten senses of the body: the nose. Taking for starting point the futurist adventures of the beginning of the XXth century and stretching until our days, it is proposed here to give an account of the presence of the smells in what the occident established as the history of the art.Neither matter nor medium, nor movement, the olfaction completely invisibilized by the critic, is however omnipresent, and it is talkative. It says all of our world, while being opposed to a hegemonic culture of the all eye, dividing since always the body and the spirit of the artists and the spectators. By the study of smell, art opens in another way.
